It's a Wonderful Life

With the happiest wishes of the holidays, take a moment to remember that this whole teaching thing allows us to have a wonderful life. I hope you and yours have a magical time these holidays- and appreciate that we are in a profession that allows us to spend the holidays with our loved ones.

Housekeeping

No, not the kind that I'm avoiding by posting on this blog!

As 2010 draws to a close there are at least a couple of things that we need to do so that we can actually work next year:
  1. Are you all paid up with the Queensland College of Teachers? If you aren't, well you won't be registered for 2011 and you simply can't teach. I found it easiest to do online... but you would have also received something in the post.
  2. Make sure you have let TRACER know your availability for 2011. You can either reply to the email that you may have received, or simply fill in their online change of details form, noting that the details you are completing are for 2011 in the comments section. They request that you contact them by January 18 to ensure that they have you on their books in time for the start of the new year.
So before you embark on your holidays for the year, get this housekeeping out of the way so you are  ready to work in 2011.

Calling all Supply Teachers. . .

Calling all Supply Teachers. . . you deserve a cup of coffee.

And cake. There simply must be cake.

There's no need for a big lead-time on this one as I'm thinking of something in a coffee shop- all I need to know is when you'd like to meet up...

a)  one afternoon after school
b)  one night after school
c)  on the weekend (let me know when).

There seem to be a few Supply Teachers bouncing around Brisbane who are in need of a cup of coffee and a good chat. Just let me know when you can make it and I'll do my best to arrange a time that suits everyone. As always, just comment or email me at amberssupplyanddemand@gmail.com.

Ready. Aim. Workshop.

So we're aiming for the very start of February for the workshop... just after the all-important day-8 contracts go out... and before uni gets too crazy for anyone still studying.

Keep checking back to the blog to see updated resources and new workshop details.

RSVP or its RIP for the Workshop...

No, it's not a Halloween Special- I need boost numbers for the "Surviving and Thriving as a Supply Teacher" Workshop to avoid cancelling it.

FREE AT LAST!!!

Bring along 10 friends (pictured above, suits optional) and you will indeed receive a free workshop. For those of us without a 10-person bicycle you too can receive a discount- $5 for each friend that you do bring. That's right- I'll be there on the day with crisp, new $5 notes for everyone who has emailed me about their friends who are coming*.

Downloads- the sharing of resources

Be patient with me... I'm new to this. I've created a google account to share resources. The link to it will usually live on the right-hand-side of the screen under the heading downloads. Right now there are some handwriting cards in Queensland script that you might like to use.

  1. Open google documents in a new tab (right click and select "open in new tab" from the list that appears
  2. Log in as amberssupplyanddemandresources@gmail.com
  3. Use the password SupplyTeacher (of course the punctuation matters- I'm a teacher!)
  4. Browse and download to your heart's content
I'll keep you updated of future additions to the downloads via this blog but it might be a good idea to check back to google docs periodically to see if there's anything of interest to you.
